Using music in the classroom is a great thing to do. You could have your students find music that supports or opposes major political events, such as wars. This would not only open their eyes to both sides of the story, but also give them some period music. Maybe getting the music teacher to work jointly with the class could work.
I used School House Rock in my 5th grade classroom for all subjects. The kids thought they were dorky, but enjoyed watching everyone else in the class sing with them.

I think what really engages students is self directed learning, figuring it out for themselves. But they have to have a purpose for that. Our job is to set that spark and teach them to use the tools to find the answers.
I think students do more research and writing orientated tasks in classes as opposed to gaming, chatting and emailing out side of school. Some classes are more creative and give students more liberty with their creation of projects. Also some of the teachers are more creative and find more hands on ways to use technology other than typing a paper or filling in predetermined boxes on a template.
The video hinted that school buildings would become a thing of the past. I do not see this as true. I think for some this will be their future, but there will be students who need our physical as well as intellectual guidance. I also think what a sad world it would be if we all stayed in our homes and telecommuted.

I really like the after school idea to interest some admin and teachers. This would also cover his use examples to help parents and admin get over their fears. These are our two biggest challenges, helping teachers incorporate the technology and not see it as "something else to do" and calming adult fears about safety for the children.
